JACKSON - Federated Rural Electric of Jackson has announced the winners in its Youth Tour Contest.
Winning the grand prize was Eli Hedstrom of Lakefield. He wins Federated’s free trip to Washington, D.C. June 14-19.
Hedstrom is the son of Dale and Mary. He’s home-schooled junior.
He will be among 1,500 teenagers from across the country participating in Youth Tour, which is sponsored by electric cooperatives. He will tour the memorials and sites, witness Congress in session, visit with legislators and enjoy an evening dinner theater, while learning about cooperatives.
Earning second place and $150 was Paul Troe, a senior at Jackson County Central. He is the son of Penny and Chad Troe of Lakefield.
Receiving third place and $100 was Katie Hartke, a sophomore at Martin County West High School. She is the daughter of Lisa and Doug Hartke of Sherburn.
Each applicant completed an application and an essay on an energy-related topic. The four finalists were called back for personal interviews earlier this week.
The other finalist was Cole Johnson, Jackson, a junior at Jackson County Central. He is the son of Stephanie and Dan Johnson.
"Federated is proud to sponsor this contest," said General Manager Scott Reimer. "It's an investment in our youth and future. This trip gives local teens exposure to our industry and government in action. These are our future leaders and I’m happy to report that we are in good hands."
