Former Jackson County Central teacher and coach Chris Aggen is the new dean of students for Perry Elementary School in Perry, Iowa.
Aggen was the head girls basketball coach for the Huskies for five seasons and also coached in the track and field program.
“I am extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity,” Aggen told the Des Moines Register. “I look forward to learning from Dr. Marzen (Perry School District Principal Dr. Ryan Marzen) and the rest of the leadership in the school and the district," Aggen said. "I also can’t wait to get kids in the building and start building those relationships.”
He is a graduate of Worthington High School and holds a degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Minnesota State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Sioux Falls.
Marzen expressed his enthusiasm for Aggen's new position.
"We are happy to welcome Chris Aggen to Perry Elementary School,” said. “His background as an educator and leader, coupled with his commitment to nurturing a positive learning environment, aligns perfectly with our mission," Marzen said. "We look forward to his contributions in fostering high academic expectations and positive relationships."
Aggen’s wife, Michelle (Van Epps) is in her first year of Director of Volleyball Operations at Iowa State University.
The Cyclones have an exhibition match Saturday at Missouri before opening their regular-season schedule on Friday, Aug. 25 at Hilton Coliseum vs. South Dakota.
Another JCC grad, Alaina Wolff, is a defensive specialist for USD. Chris Aggen coached Wolff in girls basketball with the Huskies.
