ST. PAUL – Hobie Hedquist will be among five goalies on the ice this week as the Minnesota Wild will host their annual development camp at TRIA Rink in downtown St. Paul.
The Heron Lake native played for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and was a second-team all-star in the British Columbia Hockey League this past season.
He played more minutes than any other BCHL goaltender with 2,470.
Hedquist tied for most wins in the league, compiling 28-9 record. He was also second in shutouts with five, sixth in goals against average (2.53) 10th in save percentage (.909).
Hedquist has committed to the University of North Dakota.
The 72-hour event runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and will give various prospects a chance to showcase their skills to the organization.
Two Wild draft picks will be in the camp.
Hunter Jones was the 59th overall selection in 2019 and played last season for the Wichita Falls Warriors of the North American Hockey League; and Jesper Wallstedt was the 20th overall pick in 2021 and played last season for Lulea HF of the Swedish Hockey League.
Hedquist is one of three camp invitees.
The others are Thomas Milic, who also played in the BCHL last season with the Coquitlam Express; and Kyle McClellan, who played at Mercyhurst College.
While Wild personnel like general manager Bill Guerin and coach Dean Evason will be in attendance, members of the Iowa Wild coaching staff will lead the actual workouts on the ice.
There will be practices on Tuesday and Wednesday that are free and open to the public. There will also be a 3-on-3 tournament on Thursday that is free and open to the public.
