Roman Voss accounted for 300 yards of offense and four touchdowns as the Jackson County Central football team remained undefeated with a 47-6 win over Minnesota Valley Lutheran Friday at Johnson Field in New Ulm.
The Huskies improved to 6-0 while the Chargers are 3-3 after a 3-0 start.
The sophomore quarterback rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 155 and two more TDs.
Voss had rushing touchdowns of four and six yards and threw scoring passes of 85 yards to Bryson Powers and 45 yards to Sam Brinkman.
The Huskies also made him the primary receiving target on a pass in the corner of the end zone but he was well covered by MVL. Instead, Brenan Runge threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to an open Ben Dahlin in the middle.
Tavion Diggs and Seth Stai both scored TDs on one-yard runs. Jack Sadusky was 5-for-7 on extra-point attempts.
“That is a good football team for sure,” Chargers head coach Jim Buboltz told Jim Bastian of the New Ulm Journal. “That is a team that is going to play a long time this season. They have some athletes, but I am proud of my guys. They did not give up. I thought that we really played a nice second half. We did hit some big plays, so if we can keep that mentality, keep our head up and keep pushing, we will be fine.”
Buboltz, who is in his 23rd season as coach of the Chargers, had high praise for Voss.
“Voss is the number-two rated sophomore football player in the state of Minnesota right now,” Buboltz said. “But in my eyes, he is number one. He is a pretty dangerous quarterback and he showed it tonight.”
Jackson County Central had 494 yards offense (324 rushing and 170 passing) while holding Minnesota Valley Lutheran to 212 yards (81 and 131).
“They are a dominating team and that is what they do,” Buboltz said. “We can tell our guys as much as we want with that, but the truth of the matter is that until you see it up close you don’t realize it.”
The Huskies host Luverne at 7 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Field. The Cardinals are 4-2 after a 3-0 loss to Pipestone.
