Conner Tordsen, a senior with the Dakota State men’s track and field team, picked up two awards this week.
The Fairmont High School graduate was named the North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week and was also received national honors as the NAIA Field Athlete of the Week.
It was his second straight conference award.
Tordsen was honored for his efforts in two meets in four days for the Trojans.
He recorded three first-place finishes as the Northwestern Red Raiders Invitational on April 21-22, at a meet that featured temperatures below 40 degrees, blowing snow, and winds at 20 miles per hour and higher.
He won the hammer throw with an effort of 196 feet, 1 inch; discus (170-11) and shot put (50-2).
Tordsen added a hammer throw title at an NCAA Division I meet Monday hosted by South Dakota in Vermillion (199-8). He was second in the discus (168-7). Both of his throwing marks surpassed the NAIA 'A' automatic qualifying standards.
He followed that up with three more firsts at the Mount Marty Twilight Meet in Yankton on Wednesday.
Tordsen set a school record in winning the hammer (202-1 ¾), a personal record in the shot put (51-9) and also won the discus (177-4 ¾).
This weekend, Tordsen will compete in the Drake Relays in Des Moines. He’s entered in the discus Friday and hammer throw on Saturday.
