MINNEAPOLIS – For now it won’t count in the official statistics, but Jackson County Central graduate Gavin Jacobsen made his first start for the Bethany Lutheran College baseball team Wednesday morning at U.S. Bank Stadium.
A freshman with the Vikings, Jacobsen pitched four innings and allowed two hits vs. Saint John’s. One of those hits was a home run by the Johnnies’ cleanup hitter on their second trip through the order.
He struck out four in the game, which was the second of a doubleheader.
The first game started at the non-baseball starting time of 5:30 a.m. and went nine innings, with Bethany winning 8-6.
The second game was stopped in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Vikings leading 8-2.
Statistics from the game will not count unless the game is resumed and completed. As of now the teams aren’t scheduled to meet again but college baseball schedules in Minnesota tend to be fluid.
Bethany is headed to Arizona for its annual spring training trip this week and has eight games scheduled in Tucson.
Gavin’s family, Blaise and Dustene, and sister Harper, will be in Arizona for the first part of the trip this week.
Blaise is an assistant coach with the JCC boys basketball team and plans to be back Thursday when the Huskies play Pipestone in Windom in the Section 3AA South Sub-Section tournament.
