Jackson County Central hosts Fairmont in a basketball doubleheader Friday with both games being important in the Big South Conference standings and for postseason seeding purposes. The girls game is first at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.
Girls go first
Fairmont won the first meeting between the girls teams 68-48 at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont on Dec. 20.
The Cardinals are 11-4 overall, with their most recent game being a 54-40 win at Belle Plaine Tuesday. Friday’s game is the fifth of six straight road games for Fairmont.
The Huskies are 11-6 after an 80-47 win over Tri-City United at home Tuesday. That was JCC’s eighth straight win and ended TCU’s 12-game winning streak. Rylie Cother scored 42 points and Zadi Farmer 13.
In their BSC Pod, Fairmont is 3-1 and JCC is 4-2.
First-round games in the Section 3AA South Sub-Section tournament are Feb. 22. Through Tuesday, six of the seven teams have records above .500.

Boys game
In the first meeting between the boys teams, JCC had its lowest scoring total of the season but the Huskies did come away with a 52-49 win.
The Huskies are 14-1 overall and have won six in a row since their lone loss at Belle Plaine. Their most recent game was a 91-34 home win over Tri-City United Tuesday.
Four players scored in double figures in that game with Grant Freking scoring 23 points, Weston Rowe 19, with Blaise Rowe and Aiven Farmer scoring 10 points apiece.
Carson Pohlman grabbed eight rebounds and Thomas Sether had eight assists.
In Pod play, Jackson County Central is 5-1 and Fairmont is 2-2.
