Martin County West scored 11 runs in the first inning on its way to a four-inning, 19-0 Senior Day softball win over Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at the Fox Lake Area Sports Complex in Welcome. The Mavericks added four more runs in both the second and third innings.
Emily Anderson had three hits including a triple, while Maddie Carlson and Bailey Larson also had three hits apiece for MCW, which has won six straight and is 12-2.
Rowan Faber had two hits including a double and Hannah Rosenberg also had two hits.
Courtney Anderson and Meia Schuett each added a hit for the Mavericks. Emily Schettler walked three times.
Carlson and Addy Wohlhuter teamed up in the pitcher’s circle for the shutout. Carlson went three innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out three. Wohlhuter pitched the final inning, giving up one hit and walking one.
Martin County West plays at Nicollet (9-3) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Both teams have only one loss in Valley Conference play. MCW won 10-8 in Welcome on April 8.
The Mavericks host Sleepy Eye (10-4) Tuesday and play in the Tomahawk Valley Conference Showcase Thursday, May 15 at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
