Brandon Williamson made his first start at home for the Cincinnati Reds Monday and was took the second straight no decision to start his major league career in a game the Reds won 6-5 in 10 innings over the St. Louis Cardinals in front of an announced crowd of 9,194 at Great American Ballpark.
The Martin County West graduate started Monday’s game by retiring the Cardinals in order in the first. He was then staked to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the inning.
In the second he allowed a three-run home run to Paul DeJong. St. Louis put two additional batters on base that inning, but he was able to get out of that situation.
Williamson would go 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits, walking four and striking out three.
In his two starts (the other was at Colorado last Tuesday) he has an earned run average of 3.60. In 10 innings he has given up five runs (four earned) on six hits, walked six and struck out nine.
Williamson’s next scheduled start is Saturday in Chicago vs. the Cubs at Wrigley Field. First pitch is at 6:15 p.m. and the game will be nationally televised on Fox.
