Springfield handed Martin County West its first loss of the season 14-8 Thursday at Riverside Park in Springfield.
The Mavericks did all of their scoring just 15 seconds into the game as Cody Potts returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown.
Brayden Sturm scored from nine yards out in the second quarter for the Tigers and Springfield would take the lead with 15 seconds remaining in the game when Ashtin Johnson went in from one yard out.
Following a short kickoff the Mavericks moved to the Springfield four-yard line on a long completion from Carver Rohman to Zach Anderson.
MCW ran two plays from there with a pass going incomplete and the game ended on a Mavericks’ running attempt.
Martin County West hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in its final regular-season game Wednesday. Both teams are 6-1.
