Hobie Hedquist and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs have advanced to the semifinals of the British Columbia Hockey League’s Coastal Conference playoffs for the second straight year. The Bulldogs swept the Victoria Grizzlies in their best-of-seven quarterfinal series.
Alberni Valley was the first team to advance to the semifinals and will wait to see who they face in the next round. Teams are reseeded after the quarterfinals.
The Heron Lake native and University of North Dakota commit was the Number One Star in the Bulldogs 6-2 win in Game Three of the quarterfinals.
Hedquist was the difference maker in that game as he stopped 45 of the 47 shots he faced on the night. He stopped all 17 shots he faced in the first period, 16 of 18 in the second frame and all 12 in the third.
In Game Four, Hedquist recorded 29 saves (7-14-8 by period) in a 6-4 Alberni Valley win to complete the sweep. He also was credited with an assist on a Bulldogs goal in the third period.
Hedquist played every minute in goal for Alberni Valley in the series with a 2.75 goals-against average and .935 save percentage.
