Hobie Hedquist has been named First Star of the Week in the British Columbia Hockey League.
A Heron Lake native, Hedquist is a goalie for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
Hedquist recorded back-to-back shutouts last week in a pair of Bulldogs wins and has not allowed a goal in more than three games.
The 18-year-old University of North Dakota commit started his week with an 18-save performance in a 5-0 blanking of the Surrey Eagles on Friday night. He was the game’s third star.
He was back between the pipes on Saturday night and put on an even more impressive show, stopping 35 of 35 shots against the Nanaimo Clippers in a 3-0 win. He was named first star of that game.
He has now gone over 187 minutes without allowing a goal, making 83 consecutive saves during the streak.
Hedquist leads the BCHL in goals-against average (1.83), save percentage (.936) and shutouts (3).
He has a 5-1-1 record for Alberni Valley, which is 7-3-1 overall and is in second place in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference standings with 15 points, two behind the Langley Rivermen.
The Bulldogs go on the road for three games vs. the league’s Interior Conference this week, playing at the Penticton Vees on Wednesday, Trail Smoke Eaters Friday and Cranbrook Bucks on Saturday.
