PORT ALBERNI, B.C. – Hobie Hedquist of Heron Lake has won four straight games in goal for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the British Columbia Junior A Hockey League. Three came in a four-day stretch.
On Saturday he made 17 saves in a 5-3 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs.
That followed 31 saves in a 3-2 win over the Victoria Grizzlies Friday and 27 stops in a 4-1 win over the Powell River Kings on Wednesday.
Hedquist, who is committed to the University of North Dakota, is tied for first in the BCHL in shutouts (4), third in wins (20), fifth in goals against average (2.46) and 10th in save percentage (.913).
Alberni Valley is second in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference standings with 58 points on a 27-12-3-1 record. That’s three points behind the Langley Rivermen, who have 61 points with a 29-11-1-2 mark.
Alberni Valley hosts the Nanaimo Clippers on Monday and Powell Friday before road games at the Langley Rivermen Saturday and Coquitlam Express next Sunday.
