On back-to-back days, the Jackson County Central softball team swept a Big South Conference Small School Division doubleheader, albeit in much different fashion.
Friday the Huskies won a pair of close games from Windom at home in a doubleheader where the teams combined to score only five runs, coming away with 2-1 and 2-0 victories.
That came the day after JCC won two games over Redwood Valley by the 10-run rule, beating the Cardinals 18-8 and 18-5.
Jackson County Central won Friday’s first game in walk off fashion as Morgan Preuss singled to score Renae Vancura to give the Huskies the win.
Brittany Tufvesson had two hits including a double for JCC. Vancura and Alexis O’Reilly also had two hits apiece.
Hadley Wachal struck out 14 and allowed four hits in the pitcher’s circle for the win.
All of the scoring in the nightcap came in the top of the sixth inning.
Bailey Finck’s fielder’s choice scored Brooklyn Stenzel from third and Tufvesson raced around from second and beat the throw to the plate.
O’Reilly also had two hits in that game for the Huskies.
Mady Wąchał pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up only two hits while striking out six.
The wins give the Huskies a record of 7-8 overall on the season. They finish their conference schedule 6-6. The Eagles are 6-8 and 4-6.
A number of Huskies had big days on Thursday at Redwood Valley, but Tufvesson had the biggest.
She had four hits, scored three runs and had six runs batted in during the first game, and followed that up in the second game with four more hits, three runs scored and three RBI. That made her totals for the day eight hits, six runs scored and nine RBI.
Hadley Wachal had five hits and six RBI in the doubleheader. Lauren Johnson also recorded five hits.
Mady Wachal and CJ Pauling had two hits apiece in the second game.
Mady Wachal pitched the first two innings in the first game, Brooklyn Stenzel recorded two outs in the third before Wachal returned to the circle to get the final out of the inning and then pitched the final two innings. She struck out eight.
Pauling went the distance in the second game, allowing three earned runs.
Jackson County Central has four games left on its regular-season schedule, all at home.
The Huskies host Fairmont at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and then have their rescheduled home tournament on Wednesday. That tournament had been scheduled for Saturday.
JCC is slated to face Murray County Central at 10 a.m., New York Mills at noon and Worthington at 2 p.m.
