Hobie Hedquist established a franchise record for wins for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the British Columbia Hockey League in their 4-0 win over the Victoria Grizzlies in their final game of the regular season Friday at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
The Heron Lake native was named the game’s Number One Star as he made 32 saves for his third shutout of the season and eighth of his career.
The win was the 54th of Hedquist’s BCHL career, giving him the franchise mark.
For the season, Hedquist is third in the BCHL in games played with 42, third in minutes played (2,368), is third in wins and has a 26-12-2 record, tied for fifth in shutouts (3), seventh in goals against average (2.74) and eighth in save percentage (.914).
He is a University of North Dakota commit.
Alberni Valley finished the regular season with a record of 31-19-3-1, including 18-7-0-1 at home.
The Bulldogs will see the Grizzlies again in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference quarterfinals as Alberni Valley is seeded third and Victoria sixth.
Game 1 in the series is Friday and Game 2 is Saturday.
