Jackson County Central and Martin County West both reached the halfway point of their regular-season football schedules with wins Friday night. Also, the Huskies volleyball team split its first day matches at a tournament in the Twin Cities.
Football
JCC was a 48-6 winner over Windom in the Battle for the Paddle at Island Park in Windom.
Roman Voss ran for two touchdowns, on plays of 47 and 48 yards and also threw touchdown passes, 31 yards to Bryson Powers and 15 yards to Gabe Wolff.
Wolff also ran 13 yards for a TD.
Seth Stai scored two touchdowns for Jackson County Central, on runs of 9 and 11 yards.
Voss had 179 yards rushing on only five carries. Wolff had 89 yards on eight tries.
Jackson County Central, now 4-0, hosts Redwood Valley in its homecoming game at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. The Cardinals are 0-4 after losing to Pipestone Area 35-7 Friday.
MCW stayed unbeaten with a 14-7 win over Adrian/Ellsworth in Sherburn.
Carver Rohman scored all of the Mavericks’ points, catching a 70-yard touchdown pass from Zach Anderson, scoring on a 22-yard run and running in the two-point conversion after his second TD.
Joseph Forsberg led MCW in rushing with 61 yards on 19 carries.
Wyatt Williamson was credited with 12 tackles, Max Olson had 11 including a quarterback sack and Rohman had eight.
Martin County West plays New Ulm Cathedral at 7 p.m. next Friday at Johnson Field in New Ulm. The Greyhounds are 1-3 after falling to Sleepy Eye 28-15.
Volleyball
The JCC volleyball team is 1-1 in pool play after the first day of play in the Class AA Showcase at the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse in Burnsville.
Norwood Young America defeated the Huskies 2-1 (25-20, 16-25, 15-8). Emma Haren had nine kills, Maci Farmer 21 set assists and Alexis O’Reilly eight digs.
Jackson County Central then defeated New London-Spicer 2-0 (25-18, 25-20). Haren posted 14 kills, Farmer 25 set assists and O’Reilly again led the Huskies in digs with 16.
JCC finishes pool play at 10 a.m. Saturday vs. Pequot Lakes. Bracket play will follow.
