Two Jackson County Central fall sports teams will be opening their seasons in the next couple of days.
The cross country teams will be in Fairmont on Friday, while the volleyball team is at home Saturday.
Cross country
JCC will open its cross country season Friday at the Fairmont Earlybird Invitational. The meet will be held on the grounds of Fairmont High School and varsity runners will use a 4000-meter course rather than the usual 5000 meters.
The first race 9:45 a.m.

The Huskies will then compete in Marshall on Monday.
Volleyball
The volleyball Huskies will host part of the Big South Conference Crossover Saturday. New Ulm will also host matches in the event.
Jackson County Central will play one of the conference’s two newcomers, Tri-City United at about 1 p.m. in the final of three matches being played in Jackson.
The Huskies had a record of 11-19 in 2023. The Titans were 16-10.

St. James Area vs. Worthington, 10 a.m.
Blue Earth Area vs. Windom, 11:30 a.m.
Tri-City United vs. Jackson County Central, 1 p.m.
At New Ulm
Redwood Valley vs. Fairmont, 10 a.m.
Marshall vs. Belle Plaine, 11:30 a.m.
Pipestone vs. Waseca, 1 p.m.
Luverne vs. New Ulm, 2:30 p.m.
Jackson County Central then plays Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Tuesday in Okabena.
Football
The JCC football team opens its season Friday, Aug. 30 with a game at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial.
The home opener is Friday, Sept. 6 vs. Worthington.
