The Martin County West softball team jumped right into Valley Conference play in its season opener Tuesday, winning 14-2 in five innings over St. Clair/Loyola in St. Clair.
Maddie Carlson was the winning pitcher for the Mavericks as she allowed two runs on four hits, walked three and struck out three. She also helped her cause at the plate with two hits.
Ella Carlson had two hits including a double and two runs batted in for MCW, Brianna Morrow had two hits and two RBI and Lina Arnold also had two hits.
Martin County West is scheduled to travel to Madelia for another conference game at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
