Schmidt ties for 4th in final state golf tourney

Martin County West senior Hunter Schmidt tied for fourth place in the state Class A boys golf tournament that concluded Wednesday at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.

Schmidt carded a one-over par 73 in the second round after an even-par 72 in the first round for a 36-hole total of 145.

Here are the top five golfers:

• 1. Parker Brock (Walker-Hackensack-Akeley) 71-69 - 140

• 2. Carson Boe (Lakeview) 68-74 - 142

• 3. Evan Villagomez (Heritage Christian Academy) 74-69 - 143

• 4. Hunter Schmidt (Martin County West) 72-73 - 145

• 5. Avery Ross (New Life Academy of Woodbury) 74-71 - 145

It was Schmidt’s fourth time playing in the state tournament. Here’s how he has fared in those appearances:

• 2021: tie 35th

• 2022: 4th

• 2023: tie 3rd

• 2024: tie 4th

Schmidt will be attending MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. and playing golf for the Pioneers.

Fertile-Beltrami won the Class A boys team title.
