Saturday was a great day for baseball across southern Minnesota and it was a successful one for Jackson teams.
The Jackson American Legion Tarantulas are the final undefeated team in the Division 2 Southwest Sub-State tournament in St. James after beating Luverne 8-7.
Post 130 is now off until Saturday in the eight-team double-elimination tournament.
The tourney resumes Friday with two games. St. James plays RTR at 5 p.m. with the winner staying on the field to play Luverne at about 7:30 p.m.
Jackson will meet whoever comes out of Friday’s games in the championship round at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The Substate champ advances to the state Division II tournament at Luverne July 29-31.
Earlier in the Jackson Bulls were 13-5 winners at Wells in a non-league amateur baseball game.
The game was played at Pat Frank Baseball Field at Thompson Park, named after former Jackson Bull Pat Frank, who has coached the United South Central High School and USC Legion teams for a number of years and led the renovation of the field.
The Bulls will close out their regular-season schedule at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wacker Field with a non-league game vs. Luverne. Jackson will Game One of a best-of-three league playoff series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
