Charlie Clarksean will be one of this year’s inductees into the Jackrabbit Sports Hall of Fame at South Dakota State University.
Clarksean and the rest of the group will be honored on Saturday, Sept. 14 when SDSU hosts Augustana. It will be the first meeting between the Jackrabbits and Vikings since 2004.
A Jackson High School graduate, Clarksean lettered as a defensive back for the Jackrabbits from 1971-1973.
He holds the SDSU single-season interception record with nine in 1972 and the career mark with 14. Clarksean had three interceptions vs. Eastern Montana in the 1972 season opener.
His nine interceptions in 1972 broke the record of seven set in 1963 by Wayne Ramussen, who is also in the SDSU Hall of Fame and played nine seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.
Clarksean made 133 tackles during his SDSU career, was a team captain in 1973 and was named to the all-North Central Conference team.
In 2011, he was named to the all-Coughlin-Alumni Stadium team for the 50th anniversary of SDSU’s former home stadium.
Charlie has been a longtime assistant coach with the football and boys basketball programs at Jackson and Jackson County Central, usually on a volunteer basis.
