Fairmont had two athletes compete in two events apiece at the Hamline Elite Track and Field meet Friday at Klas Field at Hamline University in St. Paul. To qualify for the meet, athletes or relay teams must have had a top performance at a MSHSL sanctioned meet regardless of Class 1A, 2A or 3A this season.
The Cardinals’ Nelson Remington placed second in both of his events with a time of 32.97 seconds in the 200-meter wheelchair event and 2:03.86 in the 800-meter wheelchair race.
Macy Hanson placed fifth in the girls 1600 meters with a school-record time of 5:00.93. The top five finishers in Friday’s meet now own the five fastest times in that event in the state this season.
Hanson was also 15th in the girls 3200 meters in a time of 11:38.78.
Three Big South Conference recorded first-place finishes at the meet.
Two were from St. Peter as Corbin Herron won the boys 300-meter hurdles in 38.79 and Luke Banks was first in boys discus with a throw of 177-9.
Also, Redwood Valley’s Kendall Huhnerkoch won the girls triple jump with an effort of 36-9 ½.
