Fairmont’s Tordsen wins discus to lead BSC charge

Fairmont senior Oliver Tordsen won the boys discus to lead a contingent of Big South Conference athletes who competed in the Hamline Elite track and field meet Friday.

Tordsen uncorked a throw of 170 feet, 10 inches to top the field of 12 throwers at Klas Field at Hamline University in St. Paul. That is the third longest in the state this season regardless of class.

Luke Banks of BSC rival St. Peter has the best throw to date in the state (178-8). Banks was third at Hamline (168-1).

Howie Johnson of Forest Lake was second in Friday’s meet (170-0) and has the second best throw in the state this season (174-4).

A junior, Johnson, has committed to play football at Minnesota. He is ranked third overall in the state for the Class of 2026 by prepredzone.com. Jackson County Central’s Roman Voss is first on that list.

Fairmont’s Nelson Remington placed second in the two wheelchair races, the 100 meters (17.39) and 800 meters (1:59.23).

Another Big South entry that placed second was Redwood Valley’s boys 4x800-meter relay team of William Ahrens, Mason Anderson, Landyn Nordby and Kilen Cilek (7:59.74).
