Springfield scored with no time left on the clock to edge Martin County West 32-27 in Southwest (East) District football Thursday night in Sherburn.
Tigers' quarterback Brendon Buerkle connected with McCoy Krick on a 35-yard 'Hail Mary' pass to give Springfield the win.
MCW's Christian Bachenberg had just scored his second rushing touchdown of the fourth quarter and third of the game with 31 seconds remaining. Brandon Bagwell's kick had given the Mavericks a 27-26 lead.
Bachenberg had gone in from three yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter and on another three-yard run in the third frame. He also connected with Tanner Sinn on a two-yard TD pass in the second quarter.
Buerkle threw five touchdown passes for the Tigers. He connected with Krick on three of them including the game-winner. They also teamed up on scoring plays of 30 yards in the first quarter and five in the third.
Buerkle also threw TD passes of 30 and 23 yards to Carter Olson.
Bachenberg led the Mavericks in rushing with 108 yards on 20 carries. He was 9-for-16 passing for 134 yards.
Joseph Forsberg returned to the MCW lineup to rush 16 times for 59 yards.
Sinn caught four passes for 23 yards, Zach Anderson two for 68 yards and Kain Sanders two for 18 yards.
Springfield improved to 6-1 overall, 6-0 in district play. Martin County West is 5-2 both overall and in the district.
The Mavericks travel to Tracy to face Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Wednesday. The Panthers are 4-2 heading into a Friday night game at Sleepy Eye.
