Hobie Hedquist remained unbeaten as a starting goalie for North Dakota as he led the top-seeded Fighting Hawks to a 7-1 win over No. 8 seed Miami and a sweep of their best-of-three National Collegiate Hockey Conference quarterfinal series Saturday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks.
The Heron Lake native was also in goal for Friday’s 5-1 Game 1 win over the visiting Redhawks.
He turned away a career-best 28 saves on 29 attempts in the win. Hedquist is the first UND freshman goalie to start 5-0-0 in his career since Jordan Parise in 2003-04
Hedquist has a .919 save percentage. In three starts against NCHC teams, he has a .961 save percentage.
North Dakota will play in the NCHC semifinals on Friday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Its opponent, Western Michigan, Omaha or Colorado College, won't be determined until Sunday night.
Denver swept Minnesota-Duluth in their series. There are two Game 3s Sunday night with Omaha at Colorado College and Western Michigan at St. Cloud State.
