Hobie Hedquist was named a team award winner for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the British Columbia Hockey League at its Awards Gala earlier this week.
The Heron Lake native, goalie for the Bulldogs, was named winner of the Unsung Hero Award.
Hedquist posted a record of 26-12-2 this season.
The University of North Dakota commit was third in the BCHL in games played with 42, third in minutes played (2,368), is third in wins and tied for fifth in shutouts (3), seventh in goals against average (2.74) and eighth in save percentage (.914).
He has 54 career wins, the franchise record.
Alberni Valley is seeded third for the Coastal Conference Playoffs and will play the sixth-seeded Victoria Grizzlies in a best-of-seven quarterfinal series that starts tonight (Friday).
Victoria has won eight straight playoff games vs. Alberni Valley dating back to 2018.
The Bulldogs have compiled a record of 21-4-1 since Christmas. The Bulldogs have only four regulation losses in just over three months.
Alberni Valley won the seven-game regular-season series 4-3, outscoring Victoria 22-21.
The Bulldogs will host Game 2 Sunday, with Games 3 and 4 in Victoria Tuesday and Wednesday. If necessary, Alberni Valley will host Game 5 April 7, the Grizzlies host Game 6 on April 7; and the Bulldogs would host Game 7 on April 11.
