Thomas Freking has signed a national letter of intent to attend Iowa State University and wrestle for the Cyclones.
Freking, who will graduate from Jackson County Central High School this weekend, was a three-time state qualifier and two-time place winner in the state Class 1A tournament for the Huskies.
He was a state qualifier at 132 pounds as a sophomore and finished the season with a 32-10 record; placed fourth at 138 as a junior when he went 45-11; and was the state champion at 138 this year, compiling a 52-7 mark.
Freking also helped JCC win the state Class A team title in 2022 and 2023 and finish third in 2021.
He is projected to wrestle at 141 pounds for the Cyclones.
Iowa State had a 16-3 dual meet record last season, placed third in the Big 12 tournament in Tulsa and 11th in the NCAA tourney, also in Tulsa.
The success Thomas had this past season has inspired his older brother, Will, to return to the mat next year:
