The majority of winter sports teams involving student-athletes from Jackson County Central and Martin County West will compete at least once during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
JCC wrestling
The Jackson County Central wrestling team will make the trip to Fargo to defend its team title in the Rumble on the Red at the Fargodome. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday. There is also a JV division.
The Huskies won the title last year with 156.5 points, with Stillwater second with 145.5 points.
Nolan Ambrose was the lone champion for JCC last year, winning the 113-pound title.
A total of 67 teams are scheduled to compete in the 16th Rumble tournament, 38 from Minnesota, 28 from North Dakota and one from South Dakota.
Pipestone graduate Steve Saxlund is founder and director of the tournament.

After the Rumble on the Red, the Huskies compete in another big tournament as they go to LaCrosse for The Clash, a 32-team dual tournament Jan. 6-7.
JCC girls basketball
JCC’s girls basketball team has one game on its schedule this week, a home makeup game vs. Luverne Thursday.
The Huskies have won three straight and are 4-1 on the season.
The Class 2A 14th-ranked Cardinals are off to a 5-0 start.
JCC boys basketball
Jackson County Central’s boys basketball team is on a three-game winning streak after opening with a loss to Blue Earth Area.
The Huskies will play a pair of games at the Southwest Minnesota State University Holiday Classic, facing Canby at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Montevideo at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Lancers and Thunder Hawks are both currently 2-2.
Windom Area girls hockey
The Windom Area girls hockey team will play in the Morris/Benson tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at Lee Community Center in Morris.
The Eagles, 3-5 on the season, will play the host Storm (4-7) in a first-round game at noon on Tuesday. In the other opening day game, Worthington (1-4) plays Prairie Center (1-7) at 2 p.m.
Tuesday’s losers play in the third-place game at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the winners playing in the championship game at noon.
Windom Area boys hockey
Three games in as many days away the Windom Area boys hockey team in the Blue Division of the Kiwanis Hockey Festival at Graham Arena in Rochester.
The Eagles (3-3) will play Dodge County (4-4) at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Albert Lea (5-3) at 2:45 p.m. Thursday and Rochester Lourdes (3-4) at 1:15 p.m. Friday.
Windom graduate Zach Bartosh is an assistant coach with Lourdes.
MCW boys basketball
Martin County West’s boys basketball team returns to Tyler for the RTR Holiday Tournament for the second straight year.
The Mavericks (3-4) will play Kaleidoscope Charter (3-2) in the first round at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Kaleidoscope Charter is located in Otsego. In the other first-round game, Class 1A No. 9 and host Russsell-Tyler-Ruthton (3-0) meets Hancock (1-2) at 4 p.m.
Tuesday’s losers play in the third-place game at 4 p.m. Wednesday with the winners playing in the championship game at 6 p.m.
MCW girls basketball
Martin County West’s girls basketball team has one game on its schedule this week, a home Valley Conference makeup game vs. Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Thursday.
The Mavericks are 2-4 overall on the season and 2-3 in conference play while the Knights are 4-2 and 2-1.
