26 strikeouts
In amateur baseball not too far away, New Ulm Brewers' pitcher Ethan Stade struck out 26 batters vs. Bird Island on Friday.
Stade, a left-hander who was a junior at Minnesota State University this spring, allowed two hits, walked one and one runner reached on an error. The Brewers won the nonleague game over the Bullfrogs 5-0.
The only out Stade recorded that was not a strikeout was in the top of the ninth inning on a ground ball to first base to lead off the inning.
Stade recorded an immaculate inning in the fifth inning when he struck out three Bullfrogs batters on nine pitches. He’d struck out the side on 10 pitches in the third.
