Jackson County Central’s scheduled softball opener vs. St. James Area was postponed today (Monday).
The teams had been scheduled to play another single game in St. James on Tuesday, but they will now play a doubleheader. The first game starts at 4:30 p.m.
JCC’s home opener is now scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday when the Huskies are slated to meet defending state Class 1A champion Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian.
ESWC has not played a game yet. The Dutchmen are scheduled to host Murray County Central Tuesday and play at Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey Thursday before coming to Jackson on Friday.
Jackson County Central is 1-0 to start the season, shutting out Fairmont 13-0 in five innings last Thursday.
Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian has qualified for the state tournament nine straight seasons (the 2020 campaign was canceled), winning three state championships and finishing second twice.
JCC went four times in six seasons from 2000-2005, winning two championships.
Last season, the Huskies were 11-10 winners at Edgerton late in the regular season.
The Flying Dutchmen are ranked number one in the first poll of the season by the Minnesota Softball Coaches Association.
Randolph, which finished fifth in last year’s Class 1A state tournament, has jumped to Class 2A and is ranked first.
Two Section 3AA teams are rated in Class 2A, with Pipestone 14th and Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 15th.
Defending Class 3A state champion Mankato East leads that class. New Ulm is seventh.
Forest Lake is the Class 4A leader.
