Windom’s Drew Rothenberger threw a second consecutive no-hitter against Jackson County Central as the Eagles defeated the Huskies 5-1 in the single-elimination first round of the Section 3AA baseball tournament Saturday at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.
Rothenberger, who also no-hit JCC in an 11-0, five-inning game on May 12 in Windom, hit a batter and struck out 11.
Windom had scored two runs in the third inning and added three in the fifth for a 5-0 lead.
JCC scored its run in the sixth when Ben Dahlin made in to second on an error after putting down a bunt, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryson Powers.
The Huskies had two other baserunners in the game. Ben Spaeth reached on an error in the first inning and Powers was hit by a pitch in the third.
Logan Butzon pitched five innings for Jackson County Central, allowing only one earned run. Brett Rossow pitched a scoreless seventh.
The Huskies finish the season with a record of 9-10.
Windom would lose 15-0 in five innings to Fairmont.
The 3AA tourney continues Tuesday with four games.
Two winner’s bracket games will be played in Marshall with Luverne playing Paynesville Area and Fairmont taking on Montevideo.
In the elimination bracket, Windom plays St. James Area at The Irish Yard in Milroy and Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta takes on New London-Spicer in Montevideo.
