Maple River handed Jackson County Central a 35-8 loss in the season-opening football game for both teams Thursday at Swearingen Field. The Eagles led 14-0 after the first quarter, 21-0 at halftime and 35-0 after three quarters.
Landon Fox was 4-for-6 passing for 70 yards and three first half touchdowns. He threw TD passes of 21 and 8 yards to Herrman in the first quarter and a 27-yarder to Mason Frank in the second period.
Mason Schirmer had four carries for 75 yards for the Eagles that included a 63-yard touchdown run. Simon had 13 carries for 67 yards.
Maple River had 260 yards rushing and 70 passing for 330 yards, while JCC had 143 yards on the ground and 30 in the air for 173 yards.
Payton Handevidt scored the Huskies' lone touchdown on a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter and he also ran in the two-point conversion.
Levi Lindley led JCC in rushing 68 yards on 15 carries. The Huskies had four different players complete passes with five completions to five different receivers.
Jackson County Central is at home again next Friday, hosting Luverne. The Cardinals also lost their opener Thursday, falling to Redwood Valley 20-6.
