BELGRADE – Jackson County Central, ranked second in Class 1A by The Guillotine, won 10 of 14 matches in winning 48-19 over top-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in a nonconference wrestling dual Friday night.
The Huskies are 18-3 on the season, while the Jaguars lost for the first time and are 16-1.
JCC won the first three matches for a 16-0 lead as Isaac Rodriguez won by fall at 106 pounds, No. 1 Nolan Ambrose won a 14-6 major decision over No. 10 Brett DeRoo at 113 and No. 2 Kie Anderson won by fall at 120.
BBE picked up two straight wins to close the within 16-9 as the Jaguars’ No. 2 Ryan Jensen won 126 and then at 132, No. 1 Walker Bents won 3-0 over No. 3 Logan Butzon.
The Huskies won two straight with Thomas Freking winning by fall at 138 and Dylan Withers claiming a 2-1 win at 145.
Top-ranked Blaine Fischer of BBE won a major decision at 152 that made it 25-13 before the Huskies reeled off four straight wins to put the dual away.
No. 1 Payton Handevidt won a 7-3 decision over No. 6 Maximus Hanson at 160, No. 8 Matthew Haley won by technical fall at 170 and then in the fourth match of the night matching state-ranked wrestlers No. 3 Caleb Vancura won 5-1 over No. 7 (195) Carson Gilbert.
Vancura’s win gave JCC a 36-13 lead to seal the dual win.
At 195, No. 4 Will Freking needed only 39 seconds to win by fall. Then at 220 JCC’s Trace Michelson was in a tight match with No. 9 Ethan Spanier before the BBE wrestler recorded the fall.
In the 285-pound match, Cameron Scholten pinned No. 10 Bryce Feuerhake at the 5:25 mark to put an exclamation point on the impressive road win for the Huskies.
Jackson County Central opens the Section 3A team tournament at home Thursday. St. James Area wrestles Springfield at 6 p.m. with the winner staying on the mat to face the Huskies.
