Top-seeded Jackson County Central opened play in the Section 3AA volleyball tournament with a 3-0 win over eighth-seeded St. James Area Friday night. Set scores were 25-18, 25-13, 25-11.
The Huskies, now 24-6, will host Windom (17-11) in the sub-section semifinals at 7 p.m. Monday. The fourth-seeded Eagles downed fifth-seeded Redwood Valley 3-1 in the first round.
JCC had a balanced hitting attack, with Sadie Voss recording 10 kills, Georgianna Wenzel nine, Emma Haren eight, Peyton Hanson six and Taylor Post three.
Maci Farmer had 33 set assists. Post had three blocks.
Haren had 10 digs, Voss and Alexis O’Reilly had six apiece and Wenzel had five.
Jackson County Central had 17 ace serves as a team.
Voss was 14-for-16 serving with eight aces, Farmer 16-18 with three aces, Wenzel 8-9 with three aces, Post 10-10 with two aces and Haren 10-13 with one ace.
In Monday’s other South Sub-Section semifinal, Pipestone (17-11) is at Luverne (18-6). The winners play for the sub-section title Thursday at a site to be determined.
Monday’s North Sub-Section semifinals have West Central Area (22-6) at Paynesville (21-3) and New London-Spicer (16-12) at Eden Valley-Watkins (17-9).
