Jackson County Central’s boys basketball team got itself ready for a an important game for sub-section seeding purposes with an impressive 91-57 home win over Marshall on Friday.
The win gives the Huskies a record of 14-6 ahead of a home game vs. Redwood Valley Tuesday. It will be Senior Night for JCC.
It’s the second win over Marshall in the team’s last three games with the Tigers. JCC won at Marshall last season and the Tigers beat the Huskies earlier this season in a game played at Southwest Minnesota State.
Jackson County Central coach Alex Hein said in a social media post that it’s the first time the Huskies have beat Marshall at home in quite a while:
Roman Voss produced a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds for JCC. He also had six assists and three steals.
Weston Rowe had 18 points and two rebounds, Ben Gallagher produced 13 points, six assists, two rebounds and one steal, Grant Freking had nine points and three assists and Thomas Sether posted eight points and four assists.
Important game Tuesday
Jackson County Central and Redwood Valley have pulled away from the remainder of the teams in the race for the number one seed for the Section 3AA South Sub-Section tournament.
The Cardinals have a 17-4 record and won their fourth straight Thursday, beating Worthington 85-77. Redwood has won eight of its last nine with the lone loss coming to Class 2A No. 10 Spectrum 84-82 in a neutral court game in Becker.
The top seed in 3AA South will get a first-round bye in the seven-team tournament that starts on Saturday, March 2.
The Huskies were 60-59 winners at Redwood on Jan. 5 on a night where they were only 2-for-18 from the free throw line.
Here are the records of the teams in the Section 3AA South Sub-Section:
Redwood Valley 17-4
Jackson County Central 14-6
Pipestone 12-8
Fairmont 10-10
Luverne 8-11
Windom 8-14

Means lights it up
Redwood Valley has several talented players, but junior Lukas Means has been grabbing most of the attention. The 5-foot-9 junior last month had a game that put his name in school, state and national record books.
He made 13 three-point baskets in the Cardinals’ 104-60 victory over Windom. That’s a Redwood school record and is tied for sixth all-time in state history for threes made in a game.
His 28 three-point attempts that night is second in state history for threes attempted in a game (one shy of the record) and is tied for seventh nationally all time.
Means had 41 points vs. the Eagles and also had seven assists and five rebounds.
