Huskies blank Aggies at state tourney
Hadley Wachal allowed one hit in five innings as seventh-seeded Jackson County Central was a 10-0 winner over second-seeded Saint Agnes in the quarterfinals of the state Class 2A softball tournament today (Wednesday) at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
It is the 91st one-hitter in state tournament history.
She was within one out of recording what would have been the 40th no-hitter in tournament history. There have also been three perfect games. The lists of one-hitters, no-hitters and perfect games can be found later in this newsletter.
Hadley walked the leadoff batter in each of the first two innings and then allowed an infield single with two out in the fifth.
JCC’s typically aggressive approach on the basepaths allowed the Huskies to parlay four hits, two walks, one error, two wild pitches, three stolen bases and a sacrifice into a seven-run first inning. Jackson County Central added one run in the second and two in the fifth to end the game early by the 10-run rule.
Brielle Tufvesson had two hits, and three runs batted in for the Huskies. Also getting hits were Cora Pauling, Hadley Wachal and Lauren Johnson.
JCC, 23-4, will play Hawley (26-2) in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The sixth-seeded Nuggets topped third-seeded Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
The other semifinal, also at 6:30 p.m., has top-seeded Randolph (24-1) playing fourth-seeded St. Cloud Cathedral (24-2).
The state championship game is at 4 p.m. Friday at Jane Sage Cowells Stadium at the University of Minnesota, while the third-place game is at 1 p.m. Thursday at Caswell.
