LA CROSSE – Jackson County Central lost all three of its matches in the Championship Bracket of The Clash wrestling tournament Saturday at La Crosse Center.
The Huskies, rated second in Class 1A in Minnesota, lost 45-18 to Class 3A No. 1 St. Michael-Albertville, 39-22 to California No. 8 Vacaville and 35-28 to Iowa Class 3A No. 1 Waverly-Shell Rock 35-28.
JCC had won all three of its matches to win its own bracket as the fifth seed on Friday, beating fourth-seeded Bolivar, Mo. 48-15, top-seeded Liberty, Ariz. 38-22 and second-seeded Staley, Mo. 49-15.
Two Huskies went 6-0 on the weekend and were named to the all-tournament team.
Caleb Vancura won four of his matches by pin and Nolan Ambrose recorded two pins.
They’re the fourth and fifth Jackson County Central wrestlers to earn all-tournament team status at The Clash. Cole VonOhlen and Travis Rutt each did it twice and Paden Moore once.
Will Freking went 5-1, while Kie Anderson, Payton Handevidt and Matthew Haley were all 4-2.
Logan Butzon and Cameron Scholten were both 3-3, Landon Andrews was 2-2 and Ben Dahlin was 1-1.
Going 2-4 were Thomas Freking, Dylan Withers and Isaiah Rodriguez. Isaac Rodriguez was 1-5.
Trace Michelson was 0-2 and Jack Mix 0-4.
JCC coach Nate Hanson tweeted what an accomplishment it was for the Huskies to make it to Division 1.
The Huskies have another busy stretch at the end of next week.
JCC hosts Windom/Mountain Lake Area in a dual Thursday, wrestles at Adrian/Ellsworth Friday and then competes in the Big South Conference tournament in St. James on Saturday.
