Huskies lead first 2A boys basketball poll
Jackson County Central is rated first in Class 2A in the initial ratings of the season by the Minnesota Boys Basketball Coaches Association.
The Huskies are 2-0 to start the season with home wins last week over Pipestone and St. James Area. JCC does not play at home again until Jan. 8.
Coach Alex Hein’s team is scheduled to play three games in the next five days, visiting Luverne Tuesday, Fairmont on Friday and then meeting Class 2A No. 10 Minnehaha Academy Saturday in Edina.
Montevideo (2-0) is rated No. 2 in Class 2A. The Thunderhawks topped Jackson County Central in last season’s Section 3AA championship game. The Huskies play at Montevideo on Jan. 10.
Rounding out the top five are Goodhue (1-0), Big South Conference member Belle Plaine (3-0) and Pequot Lakes (2-0). Defending state 2A champion Albany is No. 9.
Cherry, last season’s Class 1A runner-up begins this season at No. 1. Defending 1A state champ Dawson-Boyd is No. 5.
Totino-Grace is first in Class 3A and reigning 4A titlist Wayzata leads that class.
