Two of Jackson County Central’s three fall sports are scheduled to open their seasons in Fairmont in the next two days.
Cross country
The Huskies’ girls and boys cross country teams are slated to compete in the nine-team Fairmont Early Bird Invitational on Friday.
Friday’s meet will be held on the grounds of the Fairmont High School campus.
Here’s the schedule:
9:45 a.m. - 2000 meters junior high girls
10:25 a.m. - 2000 meters junior high boys
10:45 a.m. - 4000 meters varsity girls
11:25 a.m. - 4000 meters varsity boys

JCC’s next meet is the Paul Metcalf Invitational Friday, Sept. 1 at Mountain Lake.
Volleyball
The JCC volleyball team will open its season Saturday when the Huskies play in the first of seven matches at the Big South Conference Showcase at Cardinal Gym at Fairmont High School. First serve is at 10 a.m.
The event brings all 13 BSC volleyball teams into the same gym in one day.
Tri-City United will fill out the field. The Titans will become a Big South Conference member in the 2024-2025 school year.
Jackson County Central’s first home match is Tuesday vs. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda.
