It’s the first week of school and a light week of competition for Jackson County Central fall sports teams.
There are only three events on the schedule.
Tuesday, Sept. 6
The JCC volleyball team opens its Big South Conference West Division schedule at home vs. Redwood Valley.
The Huskies are 2-1 with wins over St. Peter and Spirit Lake sandwiched around a loss to Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda.
Redwood defeated St. James Area at the Big South Conference Showcase and had a match on its schedule vs. Eden Valley-Watkins last week but no result can be found.
The C-squad match is at 4:45 p.m., followed by the B-squad and vasrsity.
Friday, Sept. 9
JCC’s football heads to Luverne Friday for a matchup with the Cardinals.
Both teams won close games on the road to open the season.
Jackson County Central topped Maple River 30-27 and Luverne edged Redwood Valley 21-20.
Saturday, Sept. 10
The Huskies’ cross country teams will be in Luverne for the Bruce Gluf Invitational. Teams from three states are expected to compete.
In addition to the Huskies and host Cardinals, Minnesota teams scheduled to be on hand are Hendricks, Heron Lake-Okabena, Martin County West, Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey, Redwood Valley, Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton, and Springfield/Cedar Mountain.
South Dakota teams participating are Beresford, Dell Rapids and Garretson. Representing Iowa will be West Lyon.
