It’s a busy stretch for the Jackson County Central volleyball team, which plays four times this week and five times in eight days overall to end its regular-season schedule.
And the cross country team has a meet Tuesday and the football team is home Friday.
Monday, Oct. 10
The JCC volleyball team is at home the first of back-to-back nights, hosting Martin County West in a nonconference match.
It will Breast Cancer Awareness Night with team members and coaches wearing pink to raise awareness for the Edith Sanford Breast Center.
Fans are also encouraged to wear pink at the match. The Huskies Fighting Cancer committee will serve a tailgate meal.
The C-squad match starts at 4:45 p.m., followed by the B squad at about 6 p.m. and the varsity playing at approximately 7:15.
The Huskies enter the match with a 13-8 record, while the Mavericks are 11-12.
Tuesday, Oct. 11
The JCC cross country teams run on a new course at the Adrian-Ellsworth Dragons Invitational. The new course is at the football field in Adrian.
In addition to the Huskies and host Dragons, teams scheduled to compete are Abiding Savior Academy (Sioux Falls), Butterfield-Odin, Heron Lake-Okabena, Luverne, Murray County Central/Fulda, Pipestone, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Springfield/Cedar Mountain, Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, Windom, and Worthington.
The schedule:
4 p.m.: Girls junior high (1600 meters)
4:15 p.m.: Boys junior high (1600 meters)
4:30 p.m.: Girls varsity (5000 meters)
5:10 p.m.: Boys varsity (5000 meters)
5:45 p.m.: Combined JV (5000 meters)
Also Tuesday, the Jackson County Central volleyball team plays its final regular-season home match, hosting Worthington. Both teams have a record of 2-3 in the Big South Conference West Division.
Friday, Oct. 14
The JCC football team hosts Pipestone in a 7 p.m. game at Swearingen Field.
The Huskies are 6-0 after a forfeit win over Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial. Pipestone is 5-1 after its first loss of the season, 27-20 to Luverne.
Also, the Jackson County Central volleyball team starts play in the two-day Todd Bachman Invitational at Lakeville North High School. Look for more on that in a future newsletter.
