JACKSON – This is the first week of scheduled outdoor competition for Jackson County Central spring sports teams.
Of course, everything on the schedule is subject to change.
Monday, April 4
The track and field teams open their season at the Luverne Invitational. Field events start at 4:30 p.m., with running events at 5 p.m.
Teams scheduled to compete in addition to the Huskies and host Cardinals are Adrian/Ellsworth, Hills-Beaver Creek, Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton, Windom, and Worthington.
JCC’s baseball team is scheduled to open its season with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Wacker Field vs. Fairmont. Those games were originally scheduled for Thursday but were moved up due to the forecast later in the week. Both teams are in Section 3AA for postseason competition.
Thursday, April 7
The Jackson County Central softball team is slated to play a 4 p.m. twin-bill at Fairmont to open its season. The Huskies will be in Section 3AA for the postseason, while the Cardinals are in Section 2AA. Fairmont is scheduled to open its season Tuesday at Martin County West.
The JCC track and field team’s second meet of the week is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at Mountain Lake. Joining the Huskies and host Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey will be Glencoe-Silver Lake, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, Madelia/Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther, Martin County West, River Valley, and Windom.
Friday, April 8
JCC’s baseball team is slated to be at home for a second straight day, hosting Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in a 5 p.m. nonconference game at Wacker Field.
Saturday, April 9
The Jackson County Central baseball team is scheduled to meet Hayfield in an 11 a.m. game at Riverside Park in Springfield. The Vikings, who are scheduled to play Blooming Prairie on Friday, are the defending state Class 1A champions and were rated first in the preseason poll by the Minnesota Baseball Coaches Association.
Last weekend, Hayfield won its second straight state Class 1A boys basketball title.
