Every Jackson County Central winter sports team (and that includes the cooperatively sponsored Windom Area hockey teams) is scheduled to be in action by the end of the week.
Here’s a day-by-day look:
Monday, Dec. 2
The Windom Area boys hockey team has a nonconference game at Faribault. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. at Windom Ice Arena.
The Eagles are 0-2 with losses to New Ulm and Austin. The Falcons are 0-1 as they lost their opener to Austin.
Tuesday, Dec. 3
JCC’s girls basketball team plays first Big South Conference Blue Division game at Blue Earth Area.
The Huskies are 1-0, having opened with a win over Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial. The Buccaneers will be playing their season opener. The teams meet again Jan. 16 in Jackson.
Windom Area’s girls hockey team faces Mankato West in a 5:15 p.m. nonconference game at All Seasons Arena in Mankato. The Eagles are 1-5, while the Scarlets are 4-1 after an 8-3 win at Red Wing Saturday.
Thursday, Dec. 5
The Class 1A eighth-ranked Jackson County Central wrestling team has its first meet of the season as it hosts Blue Earth Area and Pipestone. It’s also the first competition for the Buccaneers and Arrows.
Wrestling starts at 5 p.m.
The JCC gymnastics team also competes for the first time this season with a dual vs. Martin County Area at Live Fit Sports & Wellness Center in Fairmont. Meet time is 6 p.m.
The Huskies’ girls basketball team is on the road again, playing Pipestone.
The Arrows are 2-0 with wins over Montevideo and Lac qui Parle Valley. Pipestone plays at Luverne (0-2) Tuesday before facing JCC.
The Windom Area girls hockey team hosts Luverne in a Big South game at 7 p.m. at Windom Arena. The Cardinals are 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the BSC with a game at Marshall (8-0) Tuesday prior to facing the Eagles.
Friday, Dec. 6
The Jackson County Central girls basketball team plays for the third time in four nights, hosting New Ulm. The Eagles (0-2) host Marshall (2-0) Tuesday before coming to Jackson.
The boys basketball team will be the final JCC team to start its season as the Huskies are at New Ulm. The Eagles open their schedule Tuesday at Marshall.
Windom Area’s boys hockey team has a 6 p.m. game vs. Prairie Centre (Sauk Centre, Melrose, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Browerville) at Sauk Centre Ice Arena. The North Stars are 0-1 with games vs. Redwood Valley and Park Rapids before hosting Windom Area.
Saturday, Dec. 7
The JCC wresting team competes in the 10-team Don Hall Invitational in Glencoe.
Teams scheduled to compete in addition to the Huskies and host Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie are BOLD, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, Kimball Area, Le Sueur-Henderson, New Ulm, Trinity School at River Ridge, Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran and Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
