What’s on the schedule for the Huskies
Here’s what is on the schedule for Jackson County Central fall sports teams this week.
Tuesday, Aug. 30
JCC’s volleyball team will be in Okabena to take on Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in a meeting of teams that are 1-0 to start the season.
The Huskies defeated St. Peter 3-0 on Saturday in Marshall, while the Coyotes were 3-2 winners over Worthington in Fulda on Thursday.
The C-squad match is at 4:45 p.m., followed by the B-squad and varsity matches.
Thursday, Sept. 1
Both the football and volleyball teams will be in action.
The JCC football team goes to Mapleton to play Maple River in a non-district game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
The Huskies are in the South Central Silver District while the Eagles are in the South Central Blue. Both teams are in Class 2A for postseason play with Jackson County Central in Section 3AA and Maple River in Section 2AA.
Also Thursday, the Jackson County Central volleyball hosts Spirit Lake in its first home match. The C-squad starts at 4:45 p.m., followed by the B-squad and varsity matches.
The Indians have played in tournaments at Sheldon and Humboldt and have a 1-6 record.
Friday, Sept. 2
JCC’s cross country teams will compete in the Paul Metcalf Invitational at Mountain Lake Golf Course.
The meet is named for Metcalf, the longtime cross country and track and field coach at Mountain Lake.
A Jackson High School graduate, Metcalf started the cross country program in Mountain Lake in 1972 and began the Laker Invitational that same year.
There will be a limited number of meet T-shirts for sale at the meet featuring a meet logo on the front and a Paul Metcalf quote on the back.
Each year the color is selected from one of the original teams participating in 1972. This year’s shirt is yellow in honor of the Lamberton Blackhawks.

Varsity girls 5000 meters, 10 a.m.
Varsity boys 5000 meters, 10:30 a.m.
JV girls and boys 4000 meters, 11 a.m.
Junior high girls 2000 meters, 11:30 a.m.
Junior high boys 2000 meters, 11:45 a.m.
