Here’s what’s on the schedule this week for Jackson County Central Spring sports teams. Of course it’s all subject to change.
Tuesday, April 1
The track and field teams are scheduled to compete in a meet in Luverne. Teams scheduled to compete other than coach Rafe York’s Huskies are Adrian/Ellsworth, Hills-Beaver Creek, Luverne, Ortonville, Southwest Minnesota Christian, Windom, Worthington.
JCC’s baseball team opens its season with a 5:30 p.m. game at Worthington. It’s also the opener for the Trojans.
Thursday, April 3
The track and field squads have a second meet in three days scheduled as they are set to go to Slayton for the Dick Davidson Invitational. Other teams in the eight-team meet are Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Lakeview, Marshall, Murray County Central, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton, Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central.
Conference play is scheduled to start for coach Mike Wierson’s JCC baseball team with a 5:30 p.m. road game vs. Windom at Island Park. That’s the opener for the Eagles.
Friday, April 4
A traditional Class 1A power will be the season-opening opponent for the Jackson County Central softball team. Coach Morgan Christopher’s squad heads to face Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian in a 4:30 p.m. game. The Flying Dutchmen open their season Monday vs. Wabasso.
Saturday, April 5
Coach Keith Eggink’s girls golf team is slated to be among 13 teams in a tournament in Worthington. Play starts at 9 a.m. at Worthington Golf Club. Also scheduled to compete are Fairmont, Fulda, Hills-Beaver Creek, Lac qui Parle Valley, Lakeview, Luverne, Murray County Central, Pipestone, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, and Windom. The Worthington boys tournament is scheduled for April 11.
The Jackson County Central baseball team is scheduled to meet two teams that appeared in the state Class 1A ratings at Gustie Baseball Field at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Huskies face defending state champion and third-ranked Springfield at 1:30 p.m. and Hayfield at 4 p.m. The Vikings received votes in the poll.
