JACKSON – As postseason competition nears, the schedule slows down a bit for Jackson County Central spring sports teams.
Here’s what is coming up this week for the Huskies. Of course, everything depends on the weather although the forecast does look favorable.
Monday, May 16
The JCC golf teams will compete in the Big South Conference tournament at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton. The boys are scheduled to start at 9 a.m., with the girls at 1 p.m.
The Huskies were sixth as a team on the boys side last year and the girls were fifth. Sam Brinkman was all-conference for the boys last year. The now-graduated Regan Farmer was all-conference for the girls.
JCC’s softball team is on the road for a Big South Conference Small School Division game at St. James Area. The Huskies are 8-9 overall after winning three games at their own tournament Saturday (see separate newsletter). JCC is 4-5 in league play.
The Saints are 10-2 overall, 9-1 in the conference. SJA won the first meeting between the teams 2-0 in Jackson on April 12.
It will Senior Day for the JCC baseball team Monday when it hosts St. James Area in a 5:30 p.m. Big South Conference Small School Division game at Wacker Field.
The Huskies are 5-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play after their split with Luverne Thursday. JCC won the first meeting between the teams 6-4 at St. James on May 9.
Tuesday, May 17
Jackson County Central’s track and field teams will head to Worthington for the 68th annual Trojan Relays. Meet time is 4 p.m.
In addition to the Huskies and host Trojans, teams scheduled to compete are Adrian/Ellsworth, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, Hills-Beaver Creek, Luverne, Marshall, Murray County Central, Pipestone Area, Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian, St. Peter, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, Westbrook-Walnut Grove and Windom.
The JCC baseball team plays at home for the second straight day Tuesday, hosting Redwood Valley in a 5:30 p.m. game. The Huskies downed the Cardinals 10-6 in Redwood Falls on April 28.
JCC’s softball team is at Blue Earth Area Tuesday. The Huskies shut out the Buccaneers 10-0 in Jackson on April 29.
Thursday, May 19
The Jackson County Central baseball team is home again Thursday, hosting BSC Large School opponent Worthington at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 21
JCC’s girls track and field team will compete in the state Class A true team meet at Stillwater High School. Look for a newsletter on that event later this week.
