For the second straight year, Redwood Valley will provide the opponent for Jackson County Central in its homecoming football game when the Huskies host the Cardinals at 7 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Field.
It will be the fourth straight time in the series the teams will play in Jackson and the first of that quartet of contests to not be played on a Saturday afternoon. JCC and Redwood have met in the Section 3AA semifinals the last two seasons and last year’s regular-season game was on a Saturday due to a snafu with scheduling officials.
Jackson County Central starts the second half of its game schedule with a 4-0 record. The Huskies have defeated Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 42-13, Worthington 43-0, Blue Earth Area 49-6 and LeSueur-Henderson 2-0 (forfeit).
Redwood Valley is 3-1, winning all three of its home games and losing its lone road contest.
The Cardinals defeated LeSueur-Henderson 35-26 in their season opener before losing 22-19 at Maple River. Redwood has won two in a row, beating Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 29-7 and Pipestone 24-21.
Cardinals’ quarterback Ethan Louwagie was 18-for-34 passing for 245 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win over the Arrows. He connected with Maxwell Fuhr on scoring plays of 18 and 65 yards and 25 yards with Taylor Schweiss.
The next three weeks should determine the top seed for the Section 3AA playoffs as the top three teams in the section (JCC, Redwood and Minesota Valley Lutheran) meet up. JCC is at MVL next week and then MVL plays at Redwood Valley.
