Cleveland put a couple of crooked numbers on the board late in the game as the Clippers rallied past Martin County West 9-3 in Valley Conference baseball Tuesday at the Fox Lake Area Sports Complex in Welcome.
The Mavericks scored single numbers in the first and fourth innings for a 2-0 lead before Cleveland scored six runs in the fifth and three in the top of the sixth. MCW got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
Jacob Wilmes had two hits including an RBI double for Martin County West and Preston Cepress also had two hits.
Cam Meyer had an RBI single. Also getting hits were Jerry Olson, Lucas Larson, Maddex Faber and Brenan Ringnell.
Larson pitched the first five innings and took the loss, allowing nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits, not walking a batter and striking put two. Olson went two hitless and scoreless innings and fanned two.
Alex Kortuem went the distance for the Clippers, giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits, walking three and striking out four.
Cleveland is now 10-2 overall, 7-0 in the Valley Conference. Martin County West is 2-6 and 0-6.
MCW plays Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Friday in Fairfax.
