PORT ALBERNI, B.C. – Hobie Hedquist made 34 saves to earn First Star honors and his British Columbia Hockey League-leading fourth shutout of the season as the Alberni Valley Bulldogs defeated the Cowichan Valley Capitals 4-0 Saturday night.
The Heron Lake native made 12 stops in the first period, five in the second and 17 in the third. Hedquist is only one shutout behind the franchise record of five in a season.
He improved his record to 13-4-0-3.
In addition to leading the league in shutouts, Hedquist is sixth in wins (13), seventh in goals against average (2.46) and eighth in save percentage (.915).
He had been selected to play in the BCHL Top Prospects game this weekend, but that game was postponement due to increased provincial restrictions around events and a spike in COVID-19 cases in the province.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to host the Nanaimo Clippers on Wednesday.
