Jackson County Central graduate Bryn Anderson placed first in the Novice Beef Fitting category recently at the South Dakota State University Little International exposition in Brookings.
Little International is a two-day agricultural event that is planned, organized and implemented by SDSU students for the benefit of high school and college students.
Anderson is a Pre-Vet Animal Science major at South Dakota State. She’s the daughter of Ron and Sara Anderson.
In the Novice Division, participants put their name in a hat and are given an type of animal that the student has no experience with.
Entrants need to take care of it, learn how to show it, and in the case of a heifer, learn how to fit it within a month without help.
This was the 100th “Little I.”
The event has been held every year since 1921 with three exceptions. In 1926, it was canceled due to the Scarlet Fever epidemic, and in 1944 and 1945 it was canceled because of World War II.
The event was patterned after the Chicago International Livestock Exposition.
